What a Power of Attorney authorises
The document transfers specific powers from the principal to an attorney. How narrowly those powers are written decides what the attorney may do.

A Power of Attorney is a written authority given to another person, known as the attorney or agent, to act on your behalf. In Pakistan it is commonly used when an overseas owner needs someone to sell or manage property, operate a bank account, appear before an office, or handle a court matter.
The document should grant no more authority than the task requires. A Special Power of Attorney names one transaction or responsibility. A General Power of Attorney gives wider powers and therefore needs closer legal review before it is signed.
The execution requirements change with the circumstances. A document signed in Pakistan may involve stamp paper, witnesses, a Notary Public, and registration with the Sub-Registrar. A document signed abroad may need endorsement by a Pakistani mission before it is used in Pakistan. The receiving authority, not the document title alone, determines the final requirements.

A Power of Attorney is not ready simply because it has been signed. The receiving office may inspect its wording, identity records, registration, and foreign certification.

- Begin with the transaction. List the property, account, case, office, or other matter the representative will handle and state the limits in plain terms.
- Use the stamp paper and signing format required for the province and transaction. The executant and witnesses should use names and identity details that match their original records.
- Where a property transfer or another registrable act is involved, ask the relevant Sub-Registrar whether registration is required before the representative can act.

- Do not overwrite a signed document. If the authority, property number, boundary, or identity detail is wrong, the safer remedy is a new instrument prepared for the same transaction.
- For a registered mandate, revocation or replacement may need to be recorded with the same office that accepted the original. Confirm this before the agent relies on the new document.
Execute on valid legal stamp paper; Power of attorney and sworn affidavits must follow provincial stamp duty rules and formal notarisation before submission to federal ministries.

- A POA signed in Pakistan for use overseas normally needs the required local execution or registration first, then MOFA attestation and any embassy legalisation requested by the receiving country.
- A POA signed abroad for use in Pakistan follows the Pakistani mission or consular process in that country. After arrival, the relevant Pakistani authority may require further verification or stamp-duty compliance.
- The receiving land office, bank, court, or embassy may also ask for a translation, a recent identity record, or a specific wording. Check that requirement before arranging the final stamp.
